What is an Approved Cattery

What is an Approved Cattery and What Does It Mean To You?

What is an approved cattery anyway? What does it mean to you? Approved catteries with the Cat Buyer Guide are individuals that have positioned themselves to be a step above the commonplace. They have shown to this organization that they are following exceptional health testing protocols among other criteria. For example, in order to get listed here all catteries will have shown they test for HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy - a genetic heart disease), screen for PK-Def (Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency).

The following is the current list of requirements to meet to be considered "Approved" It is important to understand that the Cat Buyer Guide does not guarantee these catteries. We have asked for and recieved proof of the following items and that is all we can do. We consider these approved to be listed on our site.

  • All cats screened for HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) if breed indicated or other breed specific genetic health conditions such as PRA etc.
  • All cats screened for PK-Def (Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency)
  • All kittens vaccinated with at least a 3-way vaccination (Rhino, Calici, Panleuk)
  • All kittens sold with a contract.
  • All kittens sent home no earlier than 12 weeks.
  • All Breeders Cats are registered with TICA or other approved registering body, and all kittens are sold with registration papers.
  • All Breeders provide a health guarantee.
  • All Breeders have shown an understanding of their Breeds Standard.
  • All Breeders agree to abide by TICA's Code of Ethics and the Cat Buyer Guide Code of Ethics.
  • All Breeders listed should have attended at least one cat show in last 12 months. This is not a deal breaker, but is a great way to prove structure of cats in program.

To have your cattery listed in the Cat Buyer Guide, be willing to provide proof of the above requirements, submit copies of HCM screening, a short description of your cattery goals and a signed copy of the CBG Code of Ethics to: admin@catbuyerguide.com
